A new app design and build to increase fan engagement.
Although they have a very active fan base, Arsenal wanted to see higher engagement in the digital experiences they offered.
The current app didn’t adapt with the peak and troughs of a natural game week. The highest amount of traffic was on match days followed by the build-up and post-game. The lowest being midweek. Users irregularly came to the app for official news like a new signing, and rarely came for highlights or match reports.
Limited scope and budget meant focusing our efforts was fundamental to the success of the project. Developers and designers worked in parallel to produce the redesign for Android & iOS apps in just a few months. We tested the progression of the designs with fans around the ground and flagship store.
From studying how fans around the world follow a game throughout the week, we created layouts that created excitement before the match, revisited the games after with highlights, analysis and match reports.
For fans that want deeper knowledge, they can stay up to date with the latest team news and injuries with a designated area for players.
Navigation was an area we paid particular attention to by simplifying and consolidating areas of the app into 4 core verticals with an overflow menu for less used areas.
Video played a massive part of the app covering off live feeds, highlights and manager press conferences

Creating a design system and extensive guidelines was part of the handover and development process and ensured that features could be done more efficiently and built on a solid foundation.
